David Eaves, key account manager for the North of England at The Mortgage Lender
Q. What’s your role at The Mortgage Lender and how do you help customers?
A. I work closely with our key accounts in the north of England to help grow their business as well as ours.
Q. Describe yourself in three words:
A. Positive, committed, determined.
Q. Who is the person you think has had the greatest impact on the mortgage industry during your career, and why?
A. Ray Boulger. Ever since my early days working for building societies I regarded him as the person to listen to.
Q. If you could change one thing in the industry, what would it be and why?
A. As an industry, I would love to see any reference to or reliance on income multiples removed. Affordability in my opinion should be based on exactly that, what is affordable to the individual customer circumstances.
Q. Who’s the person that’s had the greatest influence on your career, and why?
A. Can I pick 2? Angus Macnaughton when I was at Newcastle Building Society and Pete Thomson at MPLC and now, The Mortgage Lender. The support they have provided has been priceless.
Q. What do you think is The Mortgage Lender’s greatest strengths?
A. The people, always looking at ways to improve the company and always willing to listen.
Q. What five items couldn’t you live without?
A. My Man City season ticket, my phone, Sky Q, my car and (whilst they are not items) my family.
Q. What’s your guilty pleasure?
A. Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
Q. Biggest compliment you’ve ever received from a customer?
A. There have been too many to remember J but it’s always nice when a customer appreciates your efforts.
Q. Is there a sector of the mortgage market that you think is really untapped?
A. Lending to people in or going into retirement and I know this is something TML are looking into more and more.
Q. What’s your superhero power…
A. If I had one I would love teleportation, especially when stuck in traffic on the M60.
Q. Final thought…
A. Enjoy everything you do every day. If you’re not enjoying it, stop doing it.
